John Theodore Boske
John Theodore Boske, 83, passed away on Feb. 16, 2011.

John was born April 25, 1927 in Covington, Ky. He has been a resident of Ravendale, Calif. since 1979. He served in WWII as an enlisted man in the Navy. He was an active member of the Lassen County Sportsman’s Club, the Moose Lodge, the American Legion as well as a volunteer for the Bureau of Land Management.

John was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte (Shorty) Boske.

He leaves behind his significant other of 10 years Eleanora; his daughter Lou; two stepsons, John D. Teremy and Glenn R. Teremy; as well as six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

John was a wonderful father, grandfather and a “darned good friend.” He will be missed by many.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Lassen County Sportsman Club Fishing Derby.

Chapel service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 at Walton’s Chapel. Burial will follow at Diamond Crest Cemetery.

Helen Margaretta French Carman
On Dec. 18, 1923 Helen Margaretta French Carman was born the ninth child of 13 to parents, Theodore and Clarissa French in Janesville, Calif. Helen graduated from Lassen High School with the class of 1940.

She married Leo A. Carman on Dec. 18, 1941 and to this union a son, born on May 16, 1947 Earnie K. Carman (Jeannie Carman) and a daughter, Vonnie M. Kent (Jamie R. Kent) followed on June 26, 1952.

A child of the depression, Helen’s family always came first. During WWII she worked to keep money coming in for her family while her husband served his country in the Aleutian Islands. Upon his return home they resided in Susanville for 13 years then moved to North Fork, Calif. where Leo worked as head sawyer for American Forest Products and Helen raised the two children. In 1971 Leo and Helen moved to Greenville, Calif. to be closer to family and retire.

Helen is survived by one sister, Mrs. Fern Stampfli, of Greenville, Calif.; two children; four grandchildren Brad Moore, of Winnemucca, Nev., Jillian Brubaker, of Long Beach, Calif., Josh Huddleston, of Greenville and Stefanie Spangler, of Roseville, Calif., along with seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011 at the Fehrman Mortuary Chapel located at 113 Anne St.
Graveside services to follow at 2 p.m. in the Janesville Cemetery in Janesville, Calif.

Emma Freeman
A very special lady Emma Freeman passed away Feb. 15 at the age of 84 with her longtime friends Bea and Bud Price at her side, as well as friends Richard and Kathy Antuzzi from San Jose. Emma was born in Susanville on April 3, 1926 to Joe and Josephine Farrace.

She attended the local schools graduating from Lassen Junior College and went to work for the Lassen County Recorder William Packwood December 1948, and was still working until her accident in April 2010.

Emma had many friends and special relationships who continued to check on her progress while recovering from her accident and later subsequent illness. She was employed by Lassen County for nearly 63 years. Emma currently holds the record for length of service at the state level and possibly the national level.

She was a precious member of Xi Delta Lambda as well as a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Parish.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents, her oldest sister Mary and her youngest sister Carmine, whom she was so dedicated to during her illness of six years.

Emma is survived by no immediate family. Her family was Bea and Bud Price and their families as well as many friends too numerous to mention.

A vigil for Emma was held at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21 at Walton’s Colonial Mortuary. A funeral Mass will be held today at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22 at Monsignor Moran Hall, Susanville, Calif.

Curtis Glenn Gibson
Curtis Glenn Gibson was born Sept. 30, 1942 in Gridley, Calif. and died Feb. 14, 2011 in Susanville.

Curt worked for Kimberly Clark Company for several years before moving to Mendocino County where he worked as a logger. He loved living by the ocean and spending his days working in the forest. Fifteen years ago, he moved to Susanville, opening Gibson Enterprises, an appliance sales and repair business.

He was an avid geologist whose love of the hunt kept him searching for gold. In his spare time, he would head to the hills, step into his diving gear and spend hours in the mountain creeks looking for color.

He enjoyed living in Susanville, near his brother Barry, where he made many friends whom he cared for deeply. Curt always spoke highly of all of the wonderful, down to earth people who make up this friendly community.

He met many of his friends through the radio Swap Shop, where he loved to find good deals.

Curt is survived by his two daughters Amber Galusha, and Stephanie Farris; one grandson; his brother Barry Gibson; many nieces and nephews and his close friends Carol Tolen and Dean Evans. He will be missed dearly.

Mike Muldoon
Michael Allen Muldoon passed away Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 in Reno, Nev. Mike was 54 years old. He was born in 1956 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Elizabeth and Henry Muldoon.

Mike graduated from University of Illinios in 1982. Mike moved to New Mexico in 1983 and met his wife Tammy Stovall. They were married in 1983 and had two beautiful children, Alana Rose and Pat. They moved to Oroville in 1990 and began working for Red Emerson at Sierra Pacific Industries and then moved to Susanville in 1991 where he became known as Computer Mike. When the mill closed, they moved to Loyalton, Calif. and Mike worked for the mill in Loyalton and then in Quincy.

Mike was an avid outdoorsman and loved to work with the youth in Loyalton. Mike was the Scout Master in Loylaton where Pat became an Eagle Scout.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Mike is survived by his wife of 27 years Tammy Muldoon and his two children Alana (Ian), Patrick and his only grandson Arthur. He is also survived by his brother Tom Muldoon (Debbie), and his sisters Katheen Murphy (Mike), (Greg) Margaret Muldoon, Sharon Kinser (Greg) and Mary Marin (Al); his father-in-law Richard Stovall (Connie), and his mother-in-law Billie Harper (Rick), and many friends and co-workers and numerous nieces and nephews.

Adeline Elizabeth Naef
Longtime Westwood resident Adeline Elizabeth Naef peacefully passed from this life under the tender care of the staff at Country VillaRiverview, located in Susanville Calif., Friday morning, Feb. 4, 2011 at the age of 90.

Born in Pittsburg, Kan. to Kansas natives John and Melissa (Smith) Cox she spent her early years in Kansas before moving to the Northeastern California lumber community of Westwood in 1937 to finish her education.     Adeline is a member of Westwood High School's “Class of 1939.”

Shortly following her graduation, Adeline married the late Morris Naef and the couple resided on a small ranch outside of Westwood.

To this union one son and two daughters were born.

A devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Adeline was an active participant in numerous auxiliaries within the church for many years in Westwood and Clear Creek before health complications required her to move to Susanville.

First and foremost a loving mother, Adeline worked as a social worker for Lassen County as her children grew older. She enjoyed cooking, reading and collecting music boxes. In her youth she played baseball and also enjoyed dancing and horseback riding.

In passing, Adeline leaves daughters Robin Barnetche and her husband Bernard, of Susanville, and Shari Maciel, of Hamilton City, Calif.; a sister, Ida Jones, of Sandy, Utah; the jewels of her later life her 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She joins her son Douglas who tragically passed from this life from cancer in 1987, four sisters and three brothers in their eternal home.

A time of viewing and visitation took place Friday Feb. 11, 2011 at the Clear Creek Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Services followed at 1 p.m. with interment in the Westwood Cemetery.

Betty L. Sampson
Betty L. Sampson quietly passed away on Feb. 17, 2011. Born in Elliott Idaho, on Feb. 5, 1932, to Henry and Margaret Langlitz, she was the oldest of five siblings, raised on a potato farm in Idaho.

Betty graduated high school in 1951. Married and divorced, Betty finally settled in Westwood in 1969 with her three children, to be closer to her parents.

Betty was a soft-spoken, gentle woman of faith. Her family and church placed above all else. Betty took great pride and care in raising her family. She was a talented seamstress, making new clothes from fabric of old clothing. Betty also loved crafting and could make many things from “found” items. A budding gardener, her house on Cedar Street with massive daisy and lupine beds, would delight those who drove by. She had an eclectic decorating style, and her front porch was always dressed for the season.

She was a member of the Assembly of God Church, and participated in the Women’s Missionary Council. Highlight of many summers were the “camping” revivals held in Mineral. Betty was always a community volunteer, from the Nampa Idaho Red Cross, Portland Ladies Auxiliary Police, a member of the Mary T. Lyon Rebekah Lodge #19.

As a student in the Westwood Senior Craft Class, she and her friends were featured in numerous newspaper stories for their activities. She delighted in seeing her friends at the Westwood Senior Center for meals, and companionship.

Preceded in death by her parents, Betty is survived by daughter Kathy Toledo, of Paradise; daughter and husband Debbie and Frank Marino, of Susanville; and son Byron Sampson, of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Assembly of God Church in Westwood. Interment will take place in the Westwood Cemetery.
