Robert Edmund Carson
Robert “Bob” E. Carson died Dec.  30, 2010 in Carmichael, Calif. Bob was the son of Gilbert and Rose Danis born on Dec. 27, 1938 in Pittsfield, N.H.

After serving in the U.S. Navy, he moved to Riverside, Calif., where he worked as a chef. He was assistant supervisor of Doxa Christian Drug Rehab Center in Long Beach, Calif. He married Judith Henderson Knoll on Sept. 14, 1974. Moving to Susanville, he worked as a maintenance man for Lassen County and was head of the Lassen County Mental Health Transportation Services. Under the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship, Int., he ministered in the California Correction Center for eight years. He was instrumental in organizing the Susanville and Susanville prison chapters of FGBMFI and also Cowboys for Christ among other Christian activities. He loved to fish and hunt.

He and his wife served as house parents for Rightway Homes, Inc. and Koinonia Foster Care, Inc. As an independent contractor, he did the low voltage wiring for the Hyatt and Ritz Carlton in San Francisco. He managed the maintenance and construction team for Step Ahead Investments in Sacramento. Bob and Judith became very involved with the Native American community through the First Nations Healing Circle.

He is survived by his wife, Judith; sons Marc and David Knoll, of Sacramento; daughters Tina Danis Kelly, of Gilmanton Ironworks, N.H.’ Marcelle Knoll Neidert (Edward), of Carson City, Nev., and Kathleen Knoll DeCamp (William), of Santa Barbara, Calif. He has nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a sister, Sylvia Baker, of Meredith, N.H.

Funeral services were held Jan. 4, 2011, with military honors at the North Sacramento Funeral Home, Sacramento, Calif. He was interred on Jan. 11, 2011 at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, Calif., with the Patriot Guard Riders serving as honor guard.

Dena Louise Conrad Friddle
Dena Louise Conrad Friddle, 72, passed away in Jackson Hole, Wyo., on Feb. 14, 2011, with her husband Bob and son Mike at her side. Dena was born in Porterville, Calif. on Nov. 1, 1938.

Dena made her home in Bedford, Wyo. She was the daughter of Mike and Bertha Conrad, of Janesville, Calif.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Friddle, of Bedford, her sons, Michael Friddle, of Wyoming; Ryan (Donna) Friddle and granddaughter, Rylee, step-daughters Chelsey Alexander and Taylor Moss, of Susanville, Calif. She is also survived by her sisters, Helen Watson, of Visalia, Calif. and Susan Wannebo (Don), of Susanville. She had numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Dena started school at Doyle Colony Elementary School in Porterville, along with her older sister, and various McDonnell cousins. When Dena was 12 years old her family (Mike, Bertha, Susan, Dena) moved to Doyle and then to Janesville. She attended local schools and graduated from Lassen High School in 1957.

Dena and Bob were married in Reno, Nev. on Feb. 27, 1960, and would have celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. The Friddle’s lived in the Palmdale-Lancaster area early in their marriage, later moving to Truckee, Calif. and then Chester, Calif. When Bob retired they moved to Bedford.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lassen High Alumni Association.

Lola Pearl Mosby
Lola Pearl Mosby, a resident of Cottage Grove, Ore., passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, at St. Mary’s in Reno, Nev.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Mosby and son Raymond Earl Courture.

She is survived by one son, Ernest Courture (Patty), of Olustee, Okla., two daughters, Carrol Bailey (Bill), of Drain, Ore., and Cindy Roberts (Leland), of Susanville, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.

Lola was born to Emma Mae Blanchard and Philip Henry Bliss on Jan. 29, 1922 in McGill, Nev.

She was a loving mother, wonderful grandmother, an excellent horsewoman, talented artist, accomplished seamstress and always willing to share her time and talents.     She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Betty L. Sampson
Betty L. Sampson quietly passed away on Feb. 17, 2011. Born in Elliott, Idaho on Feb. 5, 1932, to Henry and Margaret Langlitz, she was the oldest of five siblings raised on a potato farm in Idaho.

Betty graduated high school in 1951. Married and divorced, Betty finally settled in Westwood in 1969 with her three children, to be closer to her parents.

Betty was a soft-spoken, gentle woman of faith. Her family and church placed above all else. Betty took great pride and care in raising her family. She was a talented seamstress, making new clothes from fabric of old clothing. Betty also loved crafting and could make many things from “found” items. A budding gardener, her house on Cedar Street with massive daisy and lupine beds, would delight those who drove by. She had an eclectic decorating style, and her front porch was always dressed for the season.

She was a member of the Assembly of God Church, and participated in the Women’s Missionary Council. Highlight of many summers were the “camping” revivals held in Mineral. Betty was always a community volunteer, from the Nampa Idaho Red Cross, Portland Ladies Auxiliary Police, a member of the Mary T. Lyon Rebekah Lodge #19.

As a student in the Westwood Senior Craft Class, she and her friends were featured in numerous newspaper stories for their activities. She delighted in seeing her friends at the Westwood Senior Center for meals and companionship.

Preceded in death by her parents, Betty is survived by daughter Kathy Toledo, of Paradise; daughter and husband Debbie and Frank Marino, of Susanville; son Byron Sampson, of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Assembly of God Church in Westwood. Interment will take place in the Westwood Cemetery.

Margaret Ann Mitchell Butler
Margaret Butler died at home on Saturday, Feb. 12 in Price, Utah. Margaret was born July 27, 1930 in Susanville, Calif., to David Scott and Dorothy Thomasson Mitchell.

Margaret is survived by her husband Ross Butler; sons, Brett (Jenae), Logan and their children, Ian, Anna and Ryan Butler; Gregory (Lori), Sandy and their children, Mackenzie and Connor Butler. She is also survived by siblings, Evelyn (Stan) Gallagher, of Mill Valley, Calif.; Mary Lynn Reed, of Alameda, Calif.; John (Olivia) Mitchell, of Prineville, Ore.; brothers-in-law Bud Murrillo, of Anderson, Calif.; Mark (Bev) Butler, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Leland (Joyce) Butler, of Penn Valley, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, sister Katy Murrillo and nephew Scott Gallagher.

Funeral services were on Saturday, Feb. 19.

Wayne Jinks
Wayne Jinks, of Litchfield, Calif. who was born Aug. 13, 1964 died Feb. 2, 2011.

He is survived by his sons Carl Jinks, Prescott, Ariz., William Jinks, Carl Jinks, of Litchfield; sister Colette Wagner, Meridian, Idaho; his mother Sandra Gruenzner of Tacoma, Wash.
