Jerome Clarence Buberl
Jerome (Jerry) Clarence Buberl, 67, passed away at sunset on Friday, March 11, 2011 at Banner Lassen Medical Center. He had been diagnosed with lung cancer the day before his death. The suddenness of his passing came as a shock to his family and friends, but all are grateful he did not suffer in his final days.

Jerry was born in Reno on March 30, 1943, the son of Clarence G. Buberl and Grace M. Buberl. The family moved to Susanville when he was 13. A 1961 graduate of Lassen High School, Jerry remained a resident of Susanville for the rest of his life. He worked for Susanville Motor Supply, Sierra Theatre, Head Start, and Lassen Motor Parts before going to work for the county in 1984. He remained with the Lassen County Public Works Department until his retirement in 2005.

As a young man, Jerry developed a love of two hobbies that would stay with him his entire life: guitar and amateur (ham) radio. He was recognized as an excellent musician, and, for many years, he played almost every weekend at venues throughout Northern California. Later in life, Jerry still loved to play with friends in informal jam sessions or the occasional special event.

Through his ham radios, Jerry, known by his call sign “KC6M”, spoke to other ham radio operators all over the world. He made contact with other hams in more than 100 countries and in all 50 states. He often spoke to others using Morse code, which he could send and receive over 20 words per minute.

Friends often dropped in on Jerry to talk shop about radios or play a game of cribbage. He always met them with a joke and a smile.

He is survived and missed by his two children, Glenn and Jeri; his four stepchildren, Jill, Jeff, Doug and Kim; his three sisters, Judy, Nancy and Audrey; and his four grandchildren, Wesley, Billy, Ava and Emma.

He was married to Maretta Stafford. They divorced but remained friends throughout his life. He later married and divorced Beverly Wobbe, while remaining friends with her till her death in February 2000.

Jerry will be laid to rest at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, at the Janesville Cemetery. Following a brief graveside service, a memorial/reception celebrating his life will begin at the T&A at approximately 11:30 a.m.
