Grace Margaret Bath DeForest
Grace Margaret Bath DeForest died peacefully at her home in Loma Rica, Calif., on July 7, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 22, at the Adin Community Church, Adin, Calif.
Grace was born in Ash Valley, Lassen County, Calif., on Dec. 23, 1922 to John Thaddeus and Amy Gladys Crow Bath. The eldest of five siblings, she attended the Ash Valley Grammar School, high school in Adin and Sacramento Junior College.
On Nov. 24, 1945 she married the love of her life, Chesley Hilman DeForest. They raised a wonderful family of five children. Grace created inviting and comfortable homes for her family and friends while Ches worked on ranches for the Flournoys in Likely; the Richards in Oregon House; and Bob Obrien in Loma Rica.
Tireless, and with a positive attitude, she was a substitute teacher and worked in packing sheds during peach and tomato seasons. The DeForests eventually moved to their own place at Loma Rica and upon retirement enjoyed their summers in Adin and winters in Loma Rica.
Grace cherished the memories of her childhood in Ash Valley. She enjoyed traveling, if not with Ches, then with her sister, Martha, to visit family and friends. She adored her children and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Grace, a devout Christian, and member of the Loma Rica Community Church, lived a good and full life, always helping others first, looking for the positive in every situation, and sharing her faith. She was active in the Yuba Sutter Cowbelles, having received a Cattlewoman of the Year Award.
Grace is survived by daughter Cheryl DeForest, of Marysville, Calif., daughter and son-in-law Beverly and Darrell “Bo” Tipton, of Loma Rica; sons and daughters-in-law Tom and Kathy DeForest, of Adin, Paul and Karin DeForest, of Ash Valley, and Charles and Becky DeForest, of Wheatland, Calif; brother and sister-in-law John and Villeta Bath, of Bonanza, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Chesley DeForest; father John Thaddeus Bath; mother Amy Gladys Crow Bath; sister Martha Bath McNeal; and brothers Fred Bath and Richard Bath.
Contributions in memory of Grace DeForest may be made to: Yuba-Sutter Cowbelles Scholarship Fund, c/o Val Middleton, PO Box 402, Oregon House, CA 95962; Intermountain Cattlewomen c/o Rose Marie Thompson, PO Box 98, Bieber, CA 96009; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

June 29, 1975 — July 8, 2011
After a long battle of dealing with so much anxiety and stress from his workplace, Scott is finally at peace and at home with the Lord. Scott was born and raised in Susanville, Calif. He loved his family and the outdoors.
He was a loving and caring son, brother, uncle, friend and so much more to those he knew, but most of all he was the most amazing dad to our son Tyler, and the best husband, friend and role model to me. I truly believe Scott had a God-given talent to be able to read people and was definitely not afraid to stand up and speak up about what he felt was right; he was a “matter-of-fact” kind of person. If you did not know or understand Scott you truly missed out. Scott was the most unselfish, smartest, strongest and respectful man I knew who always put his family first.
Scott will be missed so much but will never be forgotten. He will continue to live on in our hearts and cherished memories.
Services to remember Scott were held at the Gospel Tabernacle and he was laid to rest at the Diamond Crest Cemetery. Any request for donations in Scott’s memory can be made to any church, to any children’s programs or you may make donations to an account set up at Golden 1 Credit Union to help support his family.
Scott is survived by his loving wife, amazing son, caring parents, brother, nephew, grandpa and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his baby brother, grandpa Jones, a few of his cousins and an uncle.
