Aug. 16, 2011— Two former Lassen College baseball coaches, Steve Abney and Glen Yonan will be recognized Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Diamond Mountain Golf Course.
Both Yonan and Abney have been inducted into the California Junior College Hall of Fame due to their impressive win records as head coach for the program.
The event will begin at 1 p.m. with a round of golf. It will be a shotgun start.

There will be no charge for Diamond Mountain Golf Course members and $35 green fees for other participants.
At 5 p.m., a tri-tip dinner will be served at the Shag Bag Bar and Grill for $15 per serving.

Abney served as the head coach for the Cougars from 1986 to 1995 and Yonan was his successor after being a part of the coaching staff during Abney’s reign.
Abney led the Cougars to a 305-90 record and nine California Community College playoff appearances.

He won eight Golden Valley Conference championships and eight Golden Valley Conference Coach of the Year Awards.
In 1999, Abney was inducted into the California Community College Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.
Abney served as the pitching coach for Butte College in Oroville, Calif. from 1980 to 1984 before taking over for the Cougars.

He held the same post for the University of Southwestern Louisiana from 1984 to 1986.
During the 1990s, Abney also coached and managed in collegiate summer leagues in Alaska. He had tenures with the Mat-Su Miners and the Alaska Goldpanners. Some of his more notable players included Jason Giambi and Steve Trachsel.

Following his tenure at Lassen, Abney was the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for the University of Mississippi.
Abney was the Midwest scouting coordinator for the Cleveland Indians for five years and is currently the pitching coach for the University of Kansas.

Before coaching, Abney pitched for the unaffiliated Bakersfield Outlaws in the Single-A California League in 1978.
