Grizzlies lose season opener

Saturday, Aug. 27 — The Lassen High varsity football lost its non-league contest, 27-17, against the Shasta Wolves.

In the first contest of the 2011 season, the two-time CIF Division II champions earned two touchdowns off Cameron Medico’s strong running game.

Junior kicker Brian MacDonald put the Grizzlies’ on the board first with an incredible 48-yard field goal.

The second quarter proved difficult for Lassen after Shasta answered Medico’s end zone run with two touchdowns.

The Grizzlies came out ready to fight in the second half, scoring another touchdown, yet remained scoreless in the fourth, and the game ended in the Wolves’ favor.

Next up for the Grizzlies’ is the Chico Panthers Friday, Sept. 3, in Chico, Calif.

The Grizzlies’ first home appearance will be against the Foothill Cougars, Friday, Sept. 14 at Arnold Field.
