The Old Mill Cafe in Westwood has started the necessary repairs to their building. Womack Construction has begun the work, expecting to finish that part in December. Jason, Connie and Rod Theobald tell us they will need a few more months after that to get the business ready to open. They expect to open by next April.
20TH ANNUAL CHILI COOK-OFF
Chuck's Railroad Room in Westwood is hosting their 20th annual chili cook-off from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. There will be live music, a bounce house, dunk tank, kids games, craft vendors, Smokey Bear and much more. All the proceeds from this event will benefit the Chimney Fund and St. Jude's Children's Hospital. For more information contact Chuck's.

IT’S BRAWL TIME
This Saturday night, Sept. 9, Iron Horse Gym presents the High Desert Brawl, Seven. This brawl will be at Diamond Mountain Casino & Hotel in Susanville. Gates open at 5 p.m., brawl is at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale at various locations throughout town and all proceeds benefit local charities.
WIN A TRIP TO VEGAS
The volunteers at Banner Lassen Medical Center are selling tickets for a drawing being held on Sept. 20 to win a three-day, teo-night trip to Las Vegas or the $800 cash value. The proceeds from the drawing will be used to purchase overlays for the labor beds and a jaundice meter to help better care for their mommies and babies.
