Grizzlies unable to get past Cougars, lose another heartbreaker

Sept. 17, 2011 — The Lassen High varsity football team made their way onto Arnold Field for the first time of the 2011 season to take on the Foothill Cougars Friday, Sept. 16.

The hometown crowd was in abundance and watched in disbelief as the Grizzlies lost the contest, 22-20, in the last moments of the game after the Cougars managed to block a field goal with three seconds left on the clock.

The field goal attempt was made possible after Lassen’s Cameron Medico put the ball at about the 15-yard line after a much-needed run put the Grizzlies in scoring territory.
Medico earned two touchdowns on the night including the first Grizzly touchdown following an incredible catch by Austin Marcum over a Foothill defender.

Marcum also earned a catch in the endzone, allowing the Grizzlies to trail behind the NSCIF Division I runners-up by a mere two points at halftime, 16-14.
The Grizzlies managed the lead in the second half after Medico put one in, but Foothill answered the touchdown run in the fourth quarter and the Grizzlies lost the heartbreaker.

Before the Grizzlies took to the field, the freshman team started off the games with a shutout over Foothill, dominating with a 50-0 win. The frosh are now 3-0.

The junior varsity team fell 13-6 after struggling to make a play in the fourth quarter.

The Grizzlies are scheduled to be at Central Valley Friday, Sept. 23, before returning home to take on Pleasant Valley Friday, Sept. 30.
