Jacks football opens with four strong wins

Sept. 26, 2011 — The Westwood High football is back and came out with a vengeance, winning the first four games of the season in the California South 8-Man football.


The winning began Friday, Sept. 2, against the Redding Christian Lions in an impressive 60-8 victory to open the season.

The Jacks’ Christian Hulsey threw 8-10 for 205 yards with two touchdowns against the Lions.

Anthony Deal ran the ball 16 times for 208 yards. Hulsey ran the ball eight times for 105 yards.

As a team, the Jacks ran 33 times for 386 yards versus the Lions’ 14 times for 97 yards.

Nick Sawyer managed four catches on 135 yards and Deal caught the ball twice for 45 yards.

Eddie Acuna led the Jacks on defense with 13 tackles and Hulsey followed with seven.

Westwood had five sacks on the night. Deal had two interceptions and Lance Donat had one for the Jacks.

Friday, Sept 9, the Jacks managed to shutout the Happy Camp Indians in a 64-0 victory.

Hulsey threw 3-7 for 37 yards and Thomas Kelly threw 5-5 for 149 yards and had three touchdowns against the Indians.

Deal ran 14 times for 241 yards and Hulsey ran five times for 71 yards.

Sawyer managed to catch the ball four times for a total of 101 yards and Tristen Servin caught the ball twice for 66 yards.

Acuna led the Jacks on defense once again with 16 tackles.

Westwood had six sacks and four interceptions against the Indians.

The Jacks made their first home appearance of the season Friday, Sept. 16, to take on the Liberty Christian Patriots and came away with a 58-8 victory.

Hulsey was 9-10 for 244 yards with four touchdowns as quarterback.

Deal ran the ball 12 times for 158 yards and Hulsey managed to run the ball eight times for 151 yards.

Servin managed an impressive catch for 80 yards and Kelly had two catches for 70 yards.

Acuna once again handled the Jacks’ defense with 16 tackles and one interception against the Patriots.

Tyler Rice-stadelman and Skyler Ingwerson each had 10 tackles for the Jacks.

The Jacks had three sacks on the night.

Friday, Sept. 23, the Jacks took on the Elk Creek Elks. The Jacks continued their winning ways with a dominating 60-0 win over the Elks.

The Jacks are now undefeated in four games.

Up next for the Jacks is a home appearance against the Greenville Indians at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 30, for a homecoming celebration.
