Lassen sweeps Thunderbirds
Oct. 12, 2011 — The Lassen High volleyball teams took on the Las Plumas Thunderbirds Tuesday, Oct. 11, on the road and came away with a sweep.
The freshmen won in two games, 25-10 and 25-11.
Lassen’s Miranda Langenhorst had some amazing attacks on the net during the frosh game.
Julie Schmidt, interim head coach for the Lady Grizzlies, said Langenhorst’s attacks “wowed” Las Plumas’ crowd.
Junior varsity stepped up next and won in two games, 25-11 and 25-11.
Schmidt said Stevie Woodbury and Lindsay Northrop stayed strong in the two matches with some aggressive and impressive play for JV.
Varsity then entered the court and battled it out to win it in four games.
The Lady Grizzlies had an easy win in the first game, 25-19, but the Thunderbirds came back in the second, 25-20.
Lassen held their own in the next two games, winning 25-16 and 25-21 to finish the match.
Abbi Scheff was 18-for-21 in attacks with nine kills. Myeisha Shepard was 25-for-26 in serves with eight aces.
“The girls did good,” said Schmidt. “They are improving and playing smarter every match.”
The Lady Grizzlies will return home Thursday, Oct. 20, to take on the Enterprise Hornets.
Schmidt said it's going to be a tough match, but she thinks with the improvements these girls are making, it's going to be a fun game to watch.
The Lady Grizzlies are also helping promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month with “Volley for the Cure” T-shirts.
The Lassen volleyball boosters will be selling the shirts for $10 and all proceeds profit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
