Oct. 15, 2011 — The Lassen High football teams hosted the Oroville Tigers Friday, Oct. 14, and came away with wins in all three games.

The freshman started off the battle and dominated the Tigers in a 45-7 win.
The junior varsity team continued the Lassen domination with a 43-13 win over the Tigers.

The Friday night lights came on at Arnold Field followed by the varsity team who completed the sweep in a 48-14 win.
Lassen was quick to get on the board in the first quarter with two touchdowns by Matt Damm and Cameron Medico.

With three minutes and eight seconds left in the first quarter, the Tigers put one into the endzone after an interception allowed the Oroville runner in untouched.

The second quarter began with Lassen up 14-7, and Medico pushed for a first down after the referees called a timeout to bring out the chains.
With Lassen at the 38-yard line in Oroville territory, Austin Marcum ran one into the endzone after making the catch from a perfect pass thrown by quarterback Nate Freeman with 9:06 left in the first half.

After a quick possession change, penalties proved nearly disastrous, and after several calls pushing the Grizzlies back to the middle of the field, Medico was up to his old tricks, earning a 55-yard touchdown run to bring the score 27-7 with about seven minutes left in the half.

Medico ran to the sidelines and thanked his offensive line for the blocking that allowed the impressive run to be possible.
Damm was all over the Oroville offense, thrashing runners to stop possible touchdowns but with 3:07 left in the second quarter, Oroville put another one in to force Lassen not to feel too comfortable in a 27-14 lead.

Lassen answered with Marcum receiving two back to back catches for two back to back first downs. With 2:14 left, Medico threw defenders off of him before being finally stopped just short of the endzone.

The near touchdown run was called back though due to holding and Lassen had to repeat the first down being pushed back 19 yards because of the penalty.

Lassen seemed to be stuck and soon the first down turned into a third and 16 yards before the ball was put into the hands of Medico once again who flew into the endzone with 1:12 left.

The Grizzlies pulled a good ol’ fashioned two-point conversion after the 41-yard run and Freeman took matters into his own hands when he was unable to find an open man.
After several moments of hesitation, Freeman made it into the endzone thanks to several amazing blocks from the offensive line that left carnage in their path.

The start of the second half, Lassen came out more than ready to destroy the Tigers and Jai Curley earned a touchdown after running hard and fast for about 96-yards on a punt return.

Lassen secured the win with Damm putting one into the endzone off a run with 10:05 left in the third quarter.
Damm kept up his ways on defense along with the rest of his teammates, and the Tigers were unable to get another touchdown and the game ended in the Grizzlies favor.

The Grizzlies are now 2-0 in the Eastern Athletic League with the win over the Tigers.

The next challenge for the Grizzlies will be league rivals Paradise Bobcats, Friday, Oct. 21, at Paradise. Lassen hasn’t beat the Bobcats at their field since 2001, and the Grizzlies are hungry to remain in the top league spot.
