Lassen stung by Hornets at home
Nov. 5, 2011 — The Lassen High varsity football team played the Enterprise Hornets for the last home game of the regular season and fell 42-17 Friday, Nov. 4.
The Grizzlies’ mistakes proved costly in the contest and Enterprise’s first touchdown of the game, with 9:16 in the first quarter, resulted from a Lassen fumble at about the 25-yard line.
Enterprise had their share of penalties as well, and good Lassen defense forced a third down and 23 yards.
Lassen received the ball after the punt return and Cameron Medico pushed for a first down on a third and seven yard play.
Jordan Stokes made the first catch of the game for Lassen with less than two minutes to play in the first quarter and Medico fought for a first down on a fourth down and one yard with 1:08 left following Stokes’ catch.
Damm opened up the second quarter to earn a first down at the 7-yard line for the Grizzlies and with 10:30 on the clock, Brian MacDonald earned the first points of the game for Lassen, 7-3. The offensive surge wasn’t enough and Enterprise closed out the second quarter with two unanswered touchdowns.
When the second half started, Enterprise kept up the trips to the endzone with another quick touchdown and Lassen was behind 28-3 at the start of the second half.
Lassen had another offensive surge in the third quarter with back-to-back first downs from Medico and Damm, and an incredible catch by Clinton Bradford to get the ball in Enterprise territory, but once again wasn’t enough.
The Grizzlies refused to give up and in the start of the fourth quarter, Damm made a catch and ran the ball to within one yard of scoring range and Medico cleaned up by pushing himself through to the endzone.
Enterprise answered the touchdown and Lassen’s next trip to the endzone came with 2:54 left in the game with a catch and a quick run in by Austin Marcum to end the game 42-17.
The Grizzlies will start the Northern Section CIF Division II playoffs at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 at home.
