Classic planes featured at local air show
The event begins at 7 a.m. Saturday at the Susanville Municipal Airport with a pancake breakfast including eggs, ham and fresh strawberry pancakes.
The air show starts at 10 a.m. and runs until noon.
According to Steve Datema, air fair coordinator, lots of aircraft from the area, as well as from Nevada and the valley, will be on display.
There will also be radio control airplane demonstrations,helicopter rides and possibly rides offered in a T-6 Texan, a World War II trainer.
Datema said a Blackhawk helicopter will be coming in from the Army National Guard in Reno and Mike Guerra, the pilot, is from the area and is trying to get an all-Susanville crew together.Other planned exhibitsare two reconnaissance planes, one is owned by Susanville Aviation and possibly F15s out of Klamath Falls.
Ageless Aviation, who provides plane rides to veterans in care facilities, will be bringing in a Stearman aircraft for the event.
Demonstrations by fire helicopters and air tack are also scheduled, but according to Datema those could be tentative due to the fires.
Of the event, Datema said, “It’s a great family deal and the kids love it.”
Admission is free but the breakfast is $5 for adults and children 5 and under eat free.
Datema said a $1 parking donation is suggested.
The City of Susanville and EAA Chapter 794 sponsor the event.
