John Christopher Jones, 51, of Susanville, Calif., our dear brother, passed suddenly at his residence on or about Aug. 12, 2012.

John Christopher Jones was known to his family and friends simply as Chris.

Chris was born in 1961 here in Lassen County and spent his entire life in Susanville. Some of you that are old enough may remember his fatherJohn Harold Jones as he owned and operated North State Tree Service and Pest Control here in Susanville from 1957 until around 2000-2003. Chris was often helping his dad with the family business as a young man.

We believed our dear brother Chris had Asperger’s Syndrome, an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Chris had difficulty maneuvering in social situations and most he encountered treated him badly so as a result he tended to avoid people. This made for a rough and very lonely life for almost 26-28 years.

My brother Ian, myself, and his stepmother Kay kept in contact with Chris and we all remember Chris’s excitement when he received a phone call from us or, on rare occasions, just showing up at his doorstep. Thanks to technology we were able to provide Chris with a PC and later with an Xbox game console. This allowed him to communicate to us as often as he wished.

Chris had a gentle, kind, innocent soul and he will be missed dearly.

Our Chris is survived by his two brothers, Andrew T Jones and family, of Yorba Linda, Calif. and Ian B Jones and family, of McDonough, Ga.; aunt Louise Kramerer and her children, Leona Weber, Mary Hagerty, Debra Fischer, Valerie Martin and Eddie Nichols; aunt Arlene Jones and her children, Cindy Middleton, Mike Jones and Jim Jones; children of Floyd Jones, Bertha Klooz, Earnest Jones, Bruce Jones, Belinda Hollander and Teressa (last name unknown).

The only formal arrangement will be the burial Saturday Sept. 1 at Diamond Crest Cemetery in Susanville. All are welcome and those wishing to express your condolences to the family can call Walton’s Colonial Mortuary for the time of the burial at 257-4414.

Robert (Bob) Wheeler Pratt

Robert (Bob) Wheeler Pratt passed away peacefully at his home in Myrtle Creek, Ore. He was born July 17, 1949 in Fukuoka, Japan. His father was in the military and his family traveled all around the world. His family returned to the U.S. and settled in the San Rafael area.

He participated in Boy Scouts and earned the honor of Eagle Scout. Bob participated in wrestling in high school and college. He placed third in state and went on to be a wrestling coach. He graduated from Santa Rosa College and Sonoma State University with a degree in police science.

He started a career with the CDC at San Quentin, then transferred to Vacaville and ultimately promoted to sergeant at CCC in Susanville, where he retired. After retiring, he went to college and earned his LVN license and teaching credential. He worked for the Indian Health Center, Lassen County Juvenile Probation Department and substitute taught on a regular basis at Lassen High School and was known as “Mr. Bob.”

He encouraged his children to be involved in sports and rarely missed a sporting event. All of his children learned to water-ski at an early age at Antelope Lake. Many fun camping trips were made there.

Bob loved to country swing dance. He was considered one of the best swing dancers in town.

Bob could be found five days a week at the Iron Horse Gym and benched pressed 300 pounds at the age of 55. He was an avid fisherman and spent hundreds of freezing hours at Eagle Lake.

He moved to Roseburg, Ore. and met his wife, Susan. Shortly after he was diagnosed with Lewy-Body Dementia, he and Susan moved to Myrtle Creek and built a beautiful house. Throughout his last two years, Bob kept a positive attitude and his humor, and never complained.

Bob is survived by his brother, Michael Pratt; and sister, Cynthia Pratt. His children are: Jason Mangels, of Folsom, Adena (Pratt) Peterson, of Rancho Cordova, Brandon Pratt, of Janesville, and Jetti Pratt, of Elk Grove.

He is preceded in death by a son, Baby Boy Pratt, and grandson, Ariah Jackson. Bob has eight grandchildren.

There will be a service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1 at the Standish Mormon Church. He will be buried at the Diamond Crest Cemetery.

Ronald Phillip Reynolds

June 19, 1930 – July 8, 2012

Ronald Phillip Reynolds passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012 due to complications from multiple illnesses. He was born on June 19, 1930 in Mandan, N.D. He attended both Tonopah and Lassen High schools and married Barbara Ann Mankins on Oct. 31, 1953.

In the 1950s, Ronald worked as the manager of Whitley’s Furniture and Appliance in Susanville, Calif. Ronald later joined the Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Ronald later opened a television and radio business and later a carpet and flooring business with his brothers in Susanville. In the summer of 1956, Ronald began his long career with Sears, which took him and his family from Susanville to Chico, Calif., Phoenix, Ariz., Salt Lake City, Utah, Price, Utah and the Bay Area.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Ann Reynolds; parents, Major and Pearl Reynolds; brothers, Ralph and David; and sister, Dawn.

He is survived by sons, Ronald P. Reynolds, Jr. and James “Greg” Reynolds; siblings, Juanita G. Huber and Richard V. Reynolds; his companion of seven years, Geraldine Glenn; as well as his four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial service was held on Aug. 25 in Reno, Nev.

Margie Kirby

Margie Kirby, 83, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012 in Renown Regional Medical Center, Reno, Nev. She was born April 21, 1929 in Westwood, Calif.

Funeral services and visitation were held Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Susanville. A luncheon and burial to followed in Westwood.
