Two fires burn approximately 12 acres near Susanville area

Sept. 10, 2012 — Firefighters are mopping up two fires that burned near the Susanville area last night and early this morning.

According to Dave Junette, office of emergency services chief, fire crews were dispatched around dusk, Sunday, Sept. 9 to a an incident behind Cady Springs. The fire was contained around midnight and burned approximately seven acres, according to Junette.

The fire did burn behind several homes on Thumper Hill but Junette said there were no evacuations and resources responded fairly quickly and laid hose behind the structures.

Another fire broke out around 2:20 a.m. at Roxy Peconum Campground and Highway 36, and Junette said it was handled with equipment already on scene of the initial fire.

Fire crews will be patrolling and mopping up today.

The causes of the fires are under investigation.

Agencies who responded to the incidents were the Susanville Fire Department, Bureau of Land Management, Susan River Janesville and the Standish Litchfield fire protection districts, Calfire including two engines from Madera/Mariposa who are helping cover the area, and a United States Forest Service unit from Arizona.

According to Junette, one firefighter was injured.
