Thursday Sept. 13, 2012 — Good news on the fire on Cheney Creek Road near the city of Susanville.
The mandatory evacuations for residents living west of the water tower on Cheney Creek Road will be downgraded to voluntary evacuations at 4:45 p.m. today, according to Jeff Fontana, a public information officer with the Susanville Interagency Fire Center.
Sgt. Kevin Jones, of the Lassen County Sheriff's Office, said only residents will be allowed in the area.
Fontana said as of 4:20 p.m. today fire crews had a line around the fire that has burned 150 acres so far.
Fontana said two air tankers have been released, leaving five fighting the fire and seven helicopters are still in use.
