Concealed weapons permit class set
Oct. 2, 2012 — The final Concealed Weapons Permit class for 2012 will be offered to Plumas and Lassen County residents desiring to carry a firearm Saturday, Oct. 20, in the Chester Memorial Hall.
The extensive two-day course, which is targeted at first-time applicants, includes a full eight-hour training session that covers topics including safety, how to qualify, rules and regulations for carrying a firearm and what people can and can’t do while carrying a firearm.
According to instructor George Orloff, applicants can expect this class to be “very labor intensive.”
The second day of training (Sunday) moves students out of the classroom environment and onto the firing range for the required qualification.
For the firing range session, applicants must bring their own handguns. The guns must be California Department of Justice registered. The Orloffs will offer a variety of different weapons to handle in the class to make sure license holders have a good fit.
“We provide the different weapons to make a good match, to encourage applicants to purchase or carry the handgun that is most suitable to them,” Orloff said.
Plumas County Sheriff’s Office Range Master Sgt. Ian James will conduct the Sunday certification session.
The initial permit to carry a firearm is good for two years.
There is an administrative fee of $100 for the class and range training.
The next CCW class will be held in late spring 2013.
George and Phyllis Orloff recommend that anyone seriously interested in obtaining a permit to carry a concealed weapon in either Lassen or Plumas County pre-register at the soonest opportunity by calling them at 596-4116.
