Campfire, chainsaw use restrictions lifted on BLM, Forest Service lands

Oct. 24, 2012 — Seasonal restrictions on campfires and firewood cutting have been rescinded on public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Eagle Lake, Alturas and Surprise field offices and the Lassen and Modoc national forests.
On BLM-managed lands the fire restrictions expired at midnight Friday, Oct. 19; on the Lassen and Modoc national forests the restrictions were lifted at midnight, Sunday, Oct. 21. Campfires can again be used outside of developed recreation sites. Campfire permits are required. The 1 p.m. shutdown time for chainsaws is also lifted, along with restrictions on smoking and target shooting.
“Even with restrictions rescinded, outdoor visitors need to be extremely careful with fire,” said Rich Thayer, a manager at the Susanville Interagency Fire Center. “Conditions are still very dry and we still have the potential for fires.”
