Aurora Dolores Quadrio
Westwood native and lifelong resident Aurora Dolores Quadrio passed from this life peacefully with her family at her side Wednesday morning, Nov. 7 at the age of 87.
Born in Westwood to Westwood pioneers Matteo and Annie (Ellena) Codemo on Oct. 2, 1925, she was raised and educated in the Northeastern California lumber community of Westwood, graduating from Westwood High School as a member of the "Class of 1943."
While working in the company town's soda fountain she met a handsome young electrician working for Red River Lumber named William Quadrio, an encounter that led to the couple's holy union at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Westwood, June 1, 1947, and to this union a son and two daughters were born.
First and foremost a loving and devoted wife and mother, Aurora, after volunteering for a number of years, went to work as the school librarian at Fletcher Walker Elementary in Westwood in March of 1966; a career that spanned more than 33 years. Affectionately known as “Mrs. Q” she continued to volunteer at the school well into her 80's and throughout the years had developed a respect and love from the students that still remains today. She mentored many a new teacher on how to handle both students and administration even into her retirement. Aurora could be found volunteering every Wednesday until her health declined with the Westwood Breakfast for Kids program.
A devout member of the Roman Catholic Church, Aurora was baptized and received all of her sacraments at her beloved Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church as well as being a longtime member of the Altar Society. She was heart broken when the church closed and moved to Lake Almanor.
A talented musician, Aurora loved to dance and share her love of music through her talent on the accordion. She also served the seniors of Westwood as a volunteer for their meals program for many years.
In passing, Aurora leaves her children, Nita Jimenez and her husband Mark, of Hamilton Branch, Calif., JoAnn Martin, of Susanville, and William "Billy" Quadrio, Jr. and wife Marilyn, of Hamilton Branch; along with the precious jewels of her life, her three granddaughters, Ashlynn, Cassandra and Lindsey.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, William, Sr., who passed from this life in 1995, and a brother, David, who passed away in 1988.
A memorial mass will be celebrated for the repose of Aurora's soul at 10 a.m. Saturday Nov. 17, 2012 at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church on the Lake Almanor Peninsula. Interment will take place privately in the Lassen Cemetery, Susanville, Calif.
An opportunity to express your condolences to the family along with signing her memorial guest register is available online at fehrmanmortuary.com. The family suggests any remembrances in Aurora's memory be made to either Our Lady of the Snow's Altar Society or the Fletcher Walker Elementary School's Music Department c/o Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory, P.O.
