LVNPwinterLassen Volcanic National Park offers many opportunities for winter recreation. Ranger-led snowshoe walks for the general public leave from the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center at 1:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays from Dec. 22 through April 7.

Nov. 27, 2012 — “The scenic drive through Lassen Volcanic National Park has been closed to through traffic for the season,” said Park Superintendent Darlene M. Koontz.

The frequent winter storms these past few weeks have covered the park highway which can no longer safely be plowed through at higher elevations due to the deep snow and icy conditions.

More detailed information on current park conditions can be found online at nps.gov/lavo, on Facebook and Twitter. Visitors traveling to the park should be prepared for winter weather and driving conditions. Carry tire chains in your vehicle along with extra food, water and blankets.

Visitors can also spend a wonderful winter day at the Lassen Film Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 19 and 20.
