Nancy Frances Kelly

Just four days after the passing of her best friend and the love of her life, her husband, Joseph “Joe” Kelly, Jr., Nancy Frances Kelly peacefully left us to join him in their eternal home. With family at her side, Nancy passed from this life Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Banner Lassen Medical Center in Susanville.

Born in Providence, R.I. to the late Oscar and Frances (Wight) Oatley, on April 4, 1943, Nancy was raised and educated in Rhode Island graduating from Cranston East High School as a member of the Class of 1961.

She married shortly out of high school and to this union three daughters were born. After her divorce she moved to the west coast, and, years later in the San Francisco Bay Area while at a local night spot, she was asked to dance by a handsome firefighter named Joe Kelly, an encounter that led to the couple's marriage in Reno, Nev., on June 4, 1983.

She and Joe moved to the Northeastern California community of Westwood in 1986 where together they operated a real estate appraisal business along with a seasonal cleaning business. Together they permanently retired in 1997.
First and foremost a loving wife and mother, Nancy enjoyed socializing with family and friends and could often be found trying her luck at the various gaming establishments in the area.

Along with her loving husband, Joe, and her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Oatley in 2006.

In passing, Nancy leaves her daughters, Laurie Allin, of Stafford, Conn., Holly Allin, of Anchorage, Alaska, Heather Spadaro and her husband, Marc, of Hidden Valley Lake; her step-children, Cheryl Doughty and her husband, Steve, of Westwood, Scott Kelly, of Chico, and Joseph Kelly, III and his wife, Shannon, of Foresthill; her sisters, Audrey Hofteig and her husband, Dave, of Camarillo, and Patricia Beliveau and her husband, Dave, of Rhode Island; along with her much-loved 10 grandchildren.

A family celebration of the lives of Nancy and Joe will take place at a later date.

An opportunity to express your condolences to the family along with signing the memorial guest register is available online at fehrmanmortuary.com.

The family suggests any remembrances in Nancy's memory be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory, P.O. Box 803 Greenville, CA 95947.

Joseph “Joe” Anthony Kelly, Jr.

Westwood resident Joseph “Joe” Anthony Kelly, Jr., son of Phyllis and Joseph Kelly, Sr., peacefully passed from this life with his family at his side at Renown Medical Center located in Reno, Nev., Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at the age of 77.

Born in Butte, Mont., on June 13, 1935, he resided there until age six when in 1942 he and his family relocated to San Francisco.

After graduating from Riordan High School as a member of the Class of 1953, he joined the military to serve honorably with the U.S. Navy stationed throughout the Pacific.

Upon returning home from the service Joe worked at several different jobs before landing his dream job as a firefighter with the San Mateo Fire Department where he rose to the rank of captain, retiring after 25 years of service to the community.

Following his retirement from the fire service, not one to set idle, Joe and Nancy moved to the Northeastern California community of Westwood where they opened a real estate appraisal company as well as a seasonal cleaning business, together they fully retired in 1997.

Joe enjoyed traveling, camping, feeding all the little creatures that came “visiting” the house, along with his wife taking daily walks around town and was an avid fisherman. Winter was his favorite time of the year as he looked forward to snowmobiling with his companions in the Lassen Snowmobile Club as well as woodcutting.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis and Joe Kelly, Sr.; his first wife, Marilyn; as well as his wife, Nancy, who rejoined him in their eternal home just four days after Joe’s passing.
