Travel trailer catches fire near inspection station
Jan. 3, 2013 — A travel trailer fire had multiple agencies responding to the area near the California inspection station on Highway 395, Wednesday, Jan. 2.
According to a press release from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, a call of a reported explosion was received around 10 a.m. Deputies responded to the scene as further reports of a loud explosion and a smoke plume were reported in the area.
A helicopter from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office also responded and found two men in the mountain range near a vehicle, approximately two miles east of the Agricultural Inspection Station.
According to the LCSO, the man and his son were in the area hunting and were driving a truck towing a trailer. Somehow, the trailer disconnected from the truck and rolled, causing an explosion and fire. The two men were not injured; the recreational vehicle was destroyed in the fire.
Calfire, REMSA and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office also responded and assisted in the incident.
According to Lassen County Undersheriff John Mineau, the California Department of Fish and Game was notified regarding possible illegal hunting, but the men had been hunting in Nevada and it became moot.
