Wildland Firefighting Career Exploration workshop available next week
Jan. 4, 2013 — Are you interested in firefighting? Job-seekers can attend the Wildland Firefighting Career Exploration Workshop scheduled this week.
The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8 and Wednesday, Jan. 9 at the Lassen Business and Career Network at 1616 Chestnut St. in Susanville.
Participants need to bring a copy of their resumé (paper, flash drive, CD Rom) or call Lassen Business and Career Network for an appointment for resumé help. People can call 257-5057, TTY Relay 711 and ask for Kim, Leslie or Shellie.
Personnel from Calfire and the United States Forest Service will be at the event and recruitment questions can be answered on site.
Wildland firefighters can be members of an engine crew, hotshot crew, helicopter crew or an organized hand crew. Crews often travel to other states in support of fire management throughout the United States.
There are locations based in the Susanville, Fall River Mills, Big Valley and Alturas areas and numerous positions available nationwide. Recruitment questions can be answered on-site.
Positions last approximately six months and begin in the spring. Salaries vary depending on agency, position, location and applicant’s experience. Applicants will need to pass the basic firefighting training, a physical test and drug test.
