The 13-mile cross-country ski trip to Butte Lake is for the tried and true skier.

Jan. 24, 2013 — The holidays are finished. What can you do about winter doldrums?

Consider joining Lassen Land and Trails Trust (LLTT) Saturday, Jan. 26, for a cross-country ski or snowshoe hike followed by a sumptuous dinner of homemade soups, breads and cookies at 5 p.m.

The 13-mile round-trip cross-country ski hike begins at 8 a.m. at the historic Susanville train depot and is for the tried and true skier. Phil Finkle will lead the outing to Butte Lake. Dress appropriately and bring water, snacks and lunch. Bicycle Bananas has skis for rent.

If cross-country skiing isn’t your thing, maybe a short snowshoe hike will fit the bill. Led by Mike Rivas, the snowshoe hike will depart from the historic Susanville railroad depot at 1 p.m. LLTT has snowshoes to lend and Bicycle Bananas has snowshoes to rent.

Just want to eat out? Well, then simply come to the depot for dinner!

The ski trip and snowshoe hike are free registration. The soup dinner is $10 per person and $5 for children 12 and under. While filling up on great soups, enjoy a no-host bar and silent auction!

And all has been planned so you can still get to the Veterans Hall for Lassen County Arts Council’s ‘Ed Susanville’ curtain at 7:30 p.m. Now that’s what we call a day that can chase the cabin fever away.

LLTT, a nonprofit member supported organization, actively works to conserve significant natural areas and working landscapes and to promote and enhance a system of leading public trails in northeastern California — where the Sierra Nevada, Cascade, Modoc Plateau and the Great Basin converge, a unique region rich in agricultural heritage, wildlife and scenic vistas. For more information about LLTT’s work or about trails to enjoy, visit llttweb.org.

     Pre-register at llttweb.org or call 257-3252.
