NEW OWNERS AT GROCERY OUTLET

Kathy and Dennis Marquard, new owners of the Susanville Grocery Outlet, first fell in love with our community when they came to help open the store 17 years ago. Since then they have successfully operated a store in Tuscon, Ariz. “We’re really looking forward to the small town and making this store better than ever,” Marquard tells us. They plan to expand their gluten-free and organic lines, in addition to revamping the store layout to make shopping easier. Be sure to stop by and welcome them to the community.

PHONE BOOK

Note to yellow page advertisers:

Thanks to those who bought advertising space in this years’ edition of the Plumas Lassen Connection telephone directory. We appreciate your confidence and trust in us and in the effectiveness of our locally produced phonebook.

We know there are lots of other choices when it comes to spending your advertising dollars, so we wanted to take the time to give you a brief heads-up: There are sales reps from other telephone directory companies currently working this area selling yellow page ads for their books, which publish early this summer.

If you decide to buy an ad from one of these well-trained salespeople, be sure you know what directory you’re buying and its coverage and readership. No harm in asking lots and lots of questions while considering all your options.

And, if you happen to have an ad in one of those other books that you no longer want, you have to specifically cancel the order. At least with one of the directory companies, the agreement you signed with them when the ad was originally ordered automatically renews for the next year if it is not canceled with their sales rep by phone or in writing — even if they haven’t contacted you for the new book! Any “non-action” on your part can be (and has been) considered as a renewal under the terms of their contract.

We’re here with you day in and day out, all year long. If you would like us to share our readership survey information about the telephone directories in this market give me or one of my advertising sales consultants a call. We are here for you.

NOTING THEIR FIRST ANNIVERSARY

The Double “G” Iron Horse Saloon in Westwood celebrates its first anniversary this month. Co-owners Gunnar and Candi Garrett (husband and wife) and Mary Gow tell us their pool tournaments are open to anyone wanting to test their skills as is their monthly Texas hold-em poker games — held on the second Thursday of each month — with those proceeds benefiting the popular Chimney Fund.
