Feb. 21 — The first round playoff game was a breeze for the Lassen High School (LHS) Lady Grizzlies basketball team. LHS took on the Colusa High School Lady Redhawks in The Cave Wednesday, Feb. 20 and came out with a massive win, ending the game with a score of 66-23. After the victory against Colusa, the Lady Grizzlies will travel to compete against Anderson High School this evening, Thursday, Feb. 21.

The tone of the game was set at tipoff when Lassen gained possession of the ball and Mikialia McClure-Bustamant immediately scored. The shot clock ran out on Colusa’s first offensive attempt, giving possession of the ball back to Lassen. Senior Laken Cagle seized the opportunity, putting up a basket for the Lady Grizzlies. Bustamante followed up by scoring another basket for LHS. Only a few minutes into the game, the Lady Grizzlies were leading, 7-0, and by the end of the first quarter they had put 15 points between themselves and the Lady Redhawks. The second quarter went much the same with the Lady Grizzlies continuing to dominate the scoreboard and block out Colusa. The 42-11 score at halftime pointed to an easy win for Lassen.

In the third quarter, LHS allowed Colusa only two points, yet scored another 17 themselves. By the time the game was near its end, the Lady Grizzlies had secured their victory and fans were already talking about the next night’s playoff game against Anderson High School.

Senior Emily Terwilliger and junior Mikailia McClure-Bustamante were high scorers for Lassen, each of them scoring ten points. Mikayla Rawson scored eight points. Laken Cagle and Sara Carson each scored seven. Danica Guillen and Miranda Langenhorst each had six points. Jacqui Smith and Megan Pentridge each scored four points. Gracie Radey and Calli Oxford each had one point.

After the win against Colusa, the Lady Grizzlies hold an overall record of 14-10.
