Man arrested in medication theft case
Monday, March 18 — A Susanville man was arrested Friday, March 15, after officers from the Susanville Police Department investigated a report of someone entering a woman’s home and stealing medication.
Kelly Erwin, 34, was arrested and booked into the Lassen County Jail on a $30,000 bail.
According to a press release from the police department, at approximately 10 a.m. March 15, officers responded to a residence in the 800 block of Chestnut Street on a reported burglary.
Upon arrivals, officers contacted a man who said an unknown person(s) had been entering his mother’s residence and was stealing her medication. The man’s girlfriend also told the officers her keys had come up missing and one of the keys on the key ring was to the victim’s residence.
According to the police department, the man said he installed surveillance cameras in the residence in an attempt to catch whoever was stealing from his mother. As a result, he identified Erwin as the person who was allegedly entering the residence when nobody was home and taking the medication.
Erwin had been a friend of the victim, the police department said.
At approximately 11:30 a.m. that day, investigating officers met with Erwin at the police department for an interview and he admitted committing the alleged crime, according to the police department. The case has been referred to the Lassen County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
