Rescued bobcats released into wild in Lassen County
April 25, 2013 — After receiving months of care and rehabilitation, Chips the bobcat has been released back into the wild.
Chips and her den mate Sierra, who was rescued from Sierra Army Depot in September, were freed into Lassen County, Saturday, April 19, according to Nan Powers, of the Sierra Wildlife Rescue.
Initial information said the bobcats were taken to Humboldt County.
Powers said the juvenile cats are now 8 months old and experienced rehabbers judged them to be ready to be returned to their natural habitat.
Chips gained national attention when she was rescued from the Chips Fire in Plumas County on Aug. 25, 2012.
She was initially taken to the Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, Inc. for care of her injuries which included second-degree burns on her body. Both she and Sierra were later transferred to the Sierra Wildlife Rescue in Placerville, where they stayed until their release.
