LMUD echoes the California independent system operator flex alert warning
Monday, July 1, 2013 — Due to unusually high temperatures forecasted throughout California, Lassen Municipal Utility District is urging customers to conserve energy.
The California System Operator has issued a Flex Alert warning asking all Californians to reduce energy usage, especially during the peak hours of 3 to 6 p.m.
LMUD customers can help lessen the load on California’s electric grid by observing these easy to follow tips:
•Set your air conditioner thermostat to 78 degrees.
•Use a ceiling fan or other fans to cool your home.
•Turn your water heater down to 120 degrees.
•Avoid using appliances such as your dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer until after 7 p.m.
•Keep windows and doors closed to prevent the loss of cool air.
As of this time, LMUD has not experienced any heat-related outages. If you do experience an outage, low-voltage problems or flickering or dimming lights, call LMUD immediately at our 24-hour customer service line, 257-4174. For up-to-date outage information, you are encouraged to sign-up for LMUD’s “Text Alert Outage System.” Simply text the letters LMUD to the number 69302.
