Aug. 27, 2013 — A young boy threw his hands into the air shouting “Woah!” as the fighter jet flew by him and his family at the Susanville Air Fair on Aug. 17 at Susanville Municipal Airport.
Suffice to say, he was excited. And he was not the only one.
Families and interested visitors braved the glaring sun to learn more about different planes and watch various demonstrations.
Attendees watched Doc Blevins race his L29 Czechoslovakian fighter jet through the air, even waving the plane’s wing to the crowd down below. The California Highway Patrol picked up and lowered an officer via a single cable attached to a helicopter. Bill Neely showed the agility of some remote controlled airplanes, and other pilots showed off what their planes could do.
Participants were allowed to sit in the cockpit of a few select planes, and others sat there to be admired.
Bill and Kay Robinson, who have been coming to and enjoying the air fair for many years, found solace from the sun’s rays beneath the wing of a plane, but continued to enjoy the sights from their vantage point.
