Sept. 24 — Get ready to kick off the Halloween season! Frightmare Forest is back again after having a successful debut last year. Opening weekend for the popular fright fest will be Friday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 5.
This is an outdoor Halloween haunt that takes place in an overgrown Christmas tree farm and takes visitors through dark woods, open fields and many, many scares. The estimated time to get through is about 30 minutes and the organizers of the event promise non-stop action, scary settings and creatures of all fears waiting in the darkness.
“Dates are set and construction is just about complete with much added on and more terrors waiting for you. If you thought last year’s was good, this year’s will be off the charts,” said Lassen Community College head men’s basketball coach Devin Aye.
Frightmare Forest will take place at 472-120 Richmond Road in Susanville from 8 to 11 p.m. every Friday and Saturday night in October, as well as on Halloween night. There is a small fee to take the 30-minute walk of horror. Children less than 40 inches tall get into the maze free of charge.
This year there will also be a carnival area with games, prizes and snacks.
Last year’s Frightmare Forest drew large crowds, so visitors are urged to arrive early to avoid long lines. There will be parking available on site.
“We also hope to have a bathroom available this year. We didn’t expect to have such huge crowds last year, and that was one small improvement we are making to accommodate our supporters,” Aye said.
Frightmare Forest was put together by the Lassen College men’s and women’s basketball teams as a fundraiser. All sports programs at the college are responsible for raising funds to support their programs and pay for equipment and facility improvements.
“This is the perfect way to reach out to the community, introduce our athletes and build team chemistry while having a great time. It’s perfect timing since both our seasons get started in November,” Aye added.
This is an outdoor event, so people are advised to wear warm clothing and walking shoes fit for outdoors. Flashlights are not allowed, as it ruins the experience for all.
The Lassen College basketball program urges you to bring a group of friends and come out to have the time of your life at Frightmare Forest. You do not want to miss what is waiting for you in the woods!
