Oct. 5, 2013 — Varying from last year’s purely light-hearted rendition of the Pink Glove Dance, Banner Lassen Medical staff and supporters are making sure to stress the significance family and friends in a small rural town can have when someone is struggling with a disease like cancer.
The third annual pink glove dance is an event sponsored by Medline gloves. Participants make videos, then supporters can vote on the videos through the pink gloves website. If Banner Lassen Medical wins first place, $25,000 will be awarded to the charity of their choosing, Relay For Life Susanville. with second place receiving $14,000 and third reaping in $5,000.
This year’s film, though still full of fun images including Mountain Life Flight men in pink boas and wigs and routines by the Lassen High School Cheerleaders, focuses on one woman’s progression with cancer. It starts off with her finding out the news, feeling alone, but then finding solace in the surrounding Susanville community.
According to Theresa Ritz, spokesperson for the event, it is intended for the film to show those battling cancer, “Hey, you’re not alone in this.”
Supporters can start voting for their favorite posted video Oct. 25 through Nov. 8 by going to the Pink Glove Dance Website. Each email domain name is allowed one vote per day.
