Oct. 8 — Load your shotguns and charge your camera batteries. Hunting season is upon on us and, with the abundant hunting opportunities at the fingertips of the Lassen County residents, the Lassen County Times wants to see your photos.
Many premium deer zones are already open in Lassen County. Duck season is open and quail, chukar and pheasant will be opening in the coming weeks.
Lassen County is known as a hot spot for birds like chukar, pheasant, quail, ducks and geese because the high desert provides the perfect habitat for them. Hunters can also find some of the biggest and best mule deer and pronghorn right here in Lassen County.
Local hunters have the option of heading out on their own or utilizing the skills and expertise of a local guide service for their hunting excursions. Jim Brown and Howard Hanlon operate Hunting Buddies Hunting Co., a hunting club in Litchfield that provides hunting experiences and services to pheasant and chukar hunters, which will open about Nov. 1. This year the duo is planning to partner with a local duck club to put on at least one youth duck hunt on the Hunting Buddies’ 191 acres of land.
“I’m always excited about (hunting season). We have such a good time out at our club. We love to have people come out … we have a lot of fun,” Brown said.
The club is open to parties large or small and can take two groups out at once. To arrange a hunting excursion with Hunting Buddies, call Brown at 251-7623. He recommends people call three to four days prior to when they want to go hunting.
Local hunters can also head out on their own to enjoy some good hunting. Lassen County is home to several premium hunting zones, which are easily accessible to Lassen County residents who have been drawn for deer tags in those zones.
After a successful hunt, grab your camera and email a photo to firstname.lastname@example.org for a chance to have your photo in the Lassen County Times’ sports and recreation section.
