Lassen County Sheriff Ron Jarrell was one of many local dignitaries who donated their time to the Lassen County Fair dunking booth. However, before being dunked, he gave the ball thrower a good-natured warning.

After hundreds of wildcats and coyotes were poisoned to secure human existence in Honey Lake Valley, farmers had to constantly battle pesky jackrabbits. Packs were known to destroy single crops in less than a week. The newspaper encouraged young men to help the farmers by hunting jackrabbits instead of playing baseball.

For the first time, weary drivers were able to rest while traveling between Reno and Susanville. The Honey Lake Rest Area opened 14 miles south of Susanville on Highway 395.
The rest stop was one of 300 planned on state highways across the nation.

A 7-year-old boy was reported missing in the Canyon Dam area of Lake Almanor. Sheriff deputies located the boy in a rugged area after a five-hour search.
In an unrelated incident, sheriff’s deputies near camp Prattville Resort found a Hayward girl after a three-hour search. Neither of the children suffered injuries.
