The entire business portion of the town of Johnsville in Plumas County went up in flames. Thirteen buildings were burned with the loss estimated at $35,000 due to the fact they were only partly insured.

As a protective measure against the theft of tires, a high-valued item due to war rationing, it was recommended that numbers be branded on tires in order to trace them if such a theft occurred.

Deal and Davie Service announced it had the tools needed to do the branding at its establishment on Main Street in Susanville.

Last Wednesday, the Milford Hotel caught on fire, with flames pouring out of the roof about the middle of the building. It was said at once there was no hope of putting it out and a general alarm was given which everybody in the town responded to with all haste.

Willing and industrious hands made quick work of saving furniture, beds, clothing, stoves and everything movable.

Last night Harry Pearce and Anton Lassen were successful with their new wireless telephone station, just completed.

Yesterday, without amplifiers, they were able to catch radio concerts from the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco and the Radio Shop in San Jose, distances of more than 200 miles away.

Vehicle owners of Lassen County who have not received their 1947 license plates and registration cards are asked not to worry and to refrain from writing letters to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Although the plates are being mailed out as fast as they are made, it will not be possible to produce all the 1947 plates by April because of the steel shortage.

The press of various states are uplifting their righteous voice against legislation and the governor of the state of Nevada because they have legalized prize fighting.

At the same time, the metropolitans, while protesting the “holy horror,” are preparing to cater to the public demand by arranging for accommodation of special reporters and artists at the Corbett and Fitzsimmons fight.
