A man announced in the newspaper that he had lost a bag of gold near the Feather River while fleeing from a mountain lion. He said he would give the finder a small amount of his gold if it was returned to him.

115 years ago

Lassen County resident Gligo Terach was badly injured while walking home from his job at the Eureka Mine.

He was smothered under a sudden landslide and suffered a broken leg and broken arms. At the time, it was the fourth such accident in Lassen and Plumas counties in two months.

 

Remember When for April 24, 2012

115 years ago

An earthquake centered near San Francisco shook Lassen County awake shortly after 3 a.m., April 20. The jolt completely destroyed Dixon, Winters and Vacaville, but only shattered windows and nearly wrecked a chimney in Lassen County.

 

Remember When for April 17, 2012

115 years ago

The newspaper printed an opinion column that preached the importance of distinguishing the two classes of people that make up the country’s population.

It said there were a “first class” and a “second class.” The first was composed of those who were ambitious and were the “salt that keeps the town from spoiling.” The second was the complainers who always have their hand in something that falls.
