While they may have been attracted by the hunting, some of Hollywood’s famous decided to take up residence in the county for its beauty. Screen star Gwinn “Big Boy” Williams and two stand-ins for the famous Errol Flynn purchased 4,500 acres in the Willow Creek area, where they planned on building 10 cabins and later to add more.

 

Remember When for Oct. 18, 2011

95 years ago

Lassen County residents were taken by surprise when a rare early-October snowstorm dumped nearly 2 feet of snow. Many people were left stranded in rural sections of the county and travel between towns was impossible for several days.

 

Remember When for Oct. 11, 2011

70 years ago

Curtis Newly risked his life when the brakes on his logging truck failed to function and he ran into another truck in front of him instead of risking hurting others. His throat was cut and his head was pinned in his cab by a log, but was rescued by several bystanders.

 

Remember When for Oct. 4, 2011

125 Years ago

Professor Hagal ran an ad proclaiming he would be jumping out of a hot air balloon in the clouds between five and seven thousand feet above sea, descending to the earth with nothing to restrain his rapid descent but his grip onto the tail end of a pair of parachutes at the Lassen County Fairgrounds this week.
