Billy Jennison, the nightwatchman, had an adventurous Thursday night with a mysterious woman who was perambulating the streets in the dead hours of the night, closely wrapped in a shawl. Jennison followed her for some time and finally accosted her, but could get no clues as to who she was or what she meant by her strange behavior. He said she visited Chinatown and the graveyard in her rambles.

F.A. Washburn, of Milford, Calif., has some of the finest buck wheat flour we have seen in the state.

We hear since the storms set in quite a number of the Sol Geller band of sheep have died. They were sheared late and the older ones of the herd chilled to death.

Dr. Spalding is having lots of fine sport. He killed three deer in the last week, which he bagged in the hills near Horse Lake.

And now they say that the woman who has been walking the streets of Susanville late at night is really a man. The next time the night watchman comes across her or him, he will find out for sure.

The citizens of Janesville are furious over the closing of the Wells Fargo office in town and at the unsatisfactory manner of running the mail.
John Alexander, a hunter and trapper, recently brought in some fine deer heads. One pair of antlers had 12 points while another had 15. These are hard to beat.
