Jan. 17 — The Lassen High School Grizzlies faced off against the Chester High School Volcanoes in the first annual County Axe Battle in the Lassen Community College (LCC) gym last night.

The Grizzlies won the suspenseful game against their rival, 49-47, in front of a massive crowd of Lassen, Chester and LCC fans.

For their victory, KSUE Sports awarded the Grizzlies a trophy that featured a full-size axe. The Grizzlies will keep the axe trophy at Lassen High School until next year’s Axe Battle when Chester will try to win it back.

Jan. 15 — The Lassen Community College men’s basketball team wowed fans in an emotionally charged game against the College of the Siskiyous Saturday, Jan. 12. The Cougars won the game that went into double overtime, 96-95, triggering fans to swarm the court in excitement.

Jan. 11 — The Lassen High School varsity basketball team suffered a disappointing loss to Anderson Union High School in last night’s home game.

The Grizzlies, who were winning throughout the first three quarters lost hold of their lead in the last five minutes of the game and ended up losing 51-57.

Jan 10. — The Herlong High School Lady Vikings basketball team faced Paradise Adventist Academy Jan. 9. The game resulted in a 48-12 loss for the Lady Vikings, who now have an overall record of 2-5. Sophomore Kasey Berry shoots a basket from outside the key.
