Nov. 12, 2013 — The Joint Powers Agreement between the city and the county took a huge leap forward last Wednesday when the Susanville City Council adopted the JPA and directed staff to include funding in the city’s mid-year budget.
In recent weeks city and county staff worked to hammer out the details of the agreement to create the Honey Lake Valley Recreation Authority. The purpose of the authority, according to the JPA, is to “plan, finance, implement, manage, own and operate a multi-jurisdictional recreation system and swimming pool.”
The JPA board will be comprised of two representatives from the city and two from the county as well as an appointed fifth independent representative from the community who will serve a four-year term.
Nov. 12, 2013 — Better get ready — Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day are right around the corner. I know that seems impossible, but it’s true. Believe it or not, Thanksgiving is only 16 days away. And it’s only 43 days until Christmas. Yikes-o-mighty!
It always seems as though it takes me a little longer than most people to get in the holiday mood. I don’t know why I’m such a procrastinator, but I put things off and put things off and before I know it, the big day has finally arrived, and I’m not quite ready.
It’s not that I’m a big humbug sort of guy, I just always think I have more time than I do. Yep, so I’ll probably be out there with the rest of you last-minute shoppers crowding up the aisles, hurriedly pawing through all the remaining merchandize looking for that one perfect gift.
