Opinion

I don't want to jump off the cliff just yet

Oct. 4, 2011 — Many readers probably will remember my arrival at the Lassen County Times about 12 years ago.

Almost immediately I stumbled headlong into the murky controversy surrounding Paul Berry, a 22-year-old Lassen Community College student sentenced to five years in state prison for allegedly selling the equivalent of two joints to Cherokee Miranda, a Lassen County Narcotics Task Force operative who posed as a Lassen High School student.

In the face of worldwide negativity, we have Lassen County!

Oct. 4, 2011 — I had such a fun time last Wednesday night at Arnold Field, at Lassen High School.

It was Powder Puff football night. The annual homecoming event where our lovely, young ladies of LHS throw aside genteel behavior and take to the gridiron for some rough and tumble flag football.

The boys switched places and tried to act like girl cheerleaders and drill team wearing past uniforms.

Finally, getting paid to do what I love

Sept. 27, 2011 — I just finished my first week as the newest staff writer and was getting ready to leave for the weekend.

Barb France asked me if I felt overworked and I didn’t even pause before blurting out, “Overworked? This job is not like work to me! It is so much fun.”

Many readers may already know me.

Let's spend our money in Lassen County

Sept. 27, 2011 — Times are tough, and everyone from local residents and businesses to city and county governments are having to tighten their belts to make ends meet during these rocky economic times.

The Lassen County Chamber of Commerce’s Think Local First program provides many reasons for keeping our local dollars in play right here in our hometown — we save money while investing in our community, we support businesses that support our community, we maintain and create jobs, we keep the money we spend right here at home and we encourage business and attract businesses to Lassen County.

Creating a plan to make change and accomplish your goals

Sept. 27, 2011 — Is there anything that you have been meaning to do for a while, yet it just isn’t happening?

According to a theory on behavioral change you are in the contemplation stage.

What astonished me about this stage is that it can last a couple of weeks or as long as a lifetime. Basically some of those things we contemplate never happen.
