US Mine Corporation places highest bid for property near Amedee Airfield

Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014 — Lassen County’s administration opened bids for the 3,576 acres of surplus property near the Amedee Army Airfield near Herlong at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11 in the conference room at the county annex building on South Roop Street.

US Mine Corporation placed the highest bid — $35,000 for all the property — and HSP Resources LLC, the partnership between Hal Hayes, Larry Smith and Stephen Pezzullo that last year acquired surplus property near the Herlong city center for $39,000 placed a bid for $25,000 for the property near the airstrip. Richard Egan, Lassen County's administrative officer, called the newspaper Friday morning and said the HSP bid also included an offer to transfer the One Stop in Herlong (a building the county intended to retain that was included with the Herlong property sale in error) "in consideration for asset transfers" at the partnership's expense. Egan said that part of the bid was missed when the bids were opened Thursday afternoon. A third packet was received from the Green Association, but they did not offer a purchase price and the county classified their proposal as “no response” according to the county’s bid sheet.

At a future meeting, the Lassen County Board of Supervisors will complete or reject approval of the bid process.
