Lassen Community College and the Lassen College Foundation will hold their second annual women’s conference. This year, the conference is in honor of the late Zellamae Miles and is held at the college’s sports complex, Saturday March 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
At the college’s March 12 board of trustees meeting, president/ superintendent Dr. Marlon Hall shared the theme for this year’s conference as Visionary Women: Imagine, Believe and Achieve.
The conference will feature guest speaker Dr. Valarie Humphrey, author of the book “From Flunk Out to Front Office.”
Humphrey is an illustrative, motivational and transformative speaker with a high level of energy. She has spent more than 28 years working in the education arena.
Humphrey is currently an educational consultant and school administrator back in Illinois.
In 2012, Humphrey founded True Eagle Beauty Foundation, Inc. where the quest is to impact lives one community at a time. Her foundation currently has chapters in four different states and it is growing greater by the day.
True Eagle Beauty currently hosts female mentoring programs from second grade through the age of 25, current enrollment is nearly 300 and the best news is that they continuously have a record of 100 percent college acceptance rate.
There is a small fee to attend and the college and foundation are offering table sponsorships for interested parties. College students can attend for free with their current school identification. The event’s flyer asks those interested in obtaining tickets or to request special accommodations to contact Monteil Ackley at 257-6181, ext. 8922.
