Westwood man faces attempted murder charge

In the afternoon of April 5, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant on a residence in Westwood and arrested a Westwood man, as part of an investigation of an attempted murder.
Kevin Roberts, 35, of Westwood is in custody and is charged with attempted murder, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and prohibited person in possession of ammunition. His bail is set at $512,500.
In the early morning hours of March 31, deputies responded to Westwood on a report of a male who had been shot multiple times. Investigation of the shooting led detectives to an area in Westwood where multiple shell casings were discovered. The male victim suffered from multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a Chico area hospital for treatment and has since been released.
Investigation through the week revealed the male victim and suspect were in a verbal altercation on a street in Westwood in the early morning hours of March 31, when the suspect pulled a firearm and shot at the victim multiple times, striking the victim twice.
On April 5, detectives obtained a search warrant for a residence in Westwood for potential evidence and the suspect. Upon serving the search warrant, personnel discovered and subsequently arrested him at the residence. Several items of evidence linked to the shooting were seized as evidence pursuant to the search warrant.
