National Weather Service issues Flood Watch for Park Fire burn scar

This morning the National Weather Service in Sacramento issued a flood watch for the Northern Sacramento Valley, Central Sacramento Valley, Northeast Foothills/Sacramento Valley, Western Plumas County/Lassen Park including the cities of Paradise, Chico, Redding, Quincy, Red Bluff, Chester, Oroville, and Marysville/Yuba City from 1 p.m. through 10 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18.

The National Weather Service warns

  • Flash flooding and debris flows caused by excessive rainfall are possible over the Park Fire burn scar.
  • Heavy rainfall over the Park Fire burn scar is expected up to and during the period of the watch.
  • Residents near the Park Fire burn scar should prepare for potential flooding impacts. Be sure to stay up to date with information from local authorities.
  • Heavy rainfall could trigger flash flooding of low-lying areas, urbanized street flooding and debris flows in and near recent wildfire burn scars.
