Agencies respond to ceiling fire
Update: A ceiling fire at the Lassen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on River Street, at about 10:50 a.m. today, Wednesday, March 14, prompted the evacuation of 54 residents to Jensen Hall.
According to the Susanville Fire Department, the ceiling fire was located above one room and was contained to the room; however, the building sustained water damage from the sprinklers. All the residents were evacuated and transported to Jensen Hall.
One staff member was transferred to Banner Lassen Medical Center for smoke inhalation, according to the fire department.
The cause of the ceiling fire has yet to be determined.
According to a statement from the Susanville Police Department, when officers arrived at the center, they found staff in a state of emergency addressing the fire, which ignited in a ceiling void.
Evacuations were quickly organized, with assistance from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and police officers.

Lassen Rural Bus, in addition to drivers from other assisted living facilities, promptly arrived on scene, according to the statement, to assist in the relocation of residents, most of whom depend on wheel chairs.
Additionally, community members arrived at the fire to assist in transporting wheel chairs, oxygen bottles and other needed items to Jensen Hall. Evacuation efforts were completed by 12:11 p.m.
Per a statement from the Lassen County Health and Social Services Department, the fire at the Lassen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center prompted the evacuation of residents to Jensen Hall at the Lassen County Fairgrounds, and once the facility is deemed safe, the facility will reopen. No residents were injured from the fire.

Lassen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is working with county agencies, Lassen Community College nursing, and first responder agencies to ensure to comfort and safety of residents.
Family members are welcome to visit their loved ones at Jensen Hall, but are asked to sign in at the front door.

The police department thanked a large group of agencies and good samaritans who offered assistance.
Aiding in the efforts were the police department, sheriff’s office, Lassen County Sheriff’s Dispatch, Lassen County Motor Pool, BLM, United States Forest Service, Susanville Fire Department, the Susan River Fire Protection District, Cal Fire, SEMSA, SIFC Fire Dispatch, the Lassen Community College LVN Program, Lassen County Public Health, Lassen County Fairgrounds, Lassen Municipal Utility District, Susanville Public Works, Lassen Rural Bus, Eagle Lake Village Assisted Living, Susanville Indian Rancheria, North Valley Services, Ardell Busby and the others who devoted their time and efforts.
