A local 24-year-old sustained fatal injuries from a one-vehicle collision around 11:40 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3.
According to a statement from the California Highway Patrol, William Eugene Bell, of Susanville, who was allegedly intoxicated, was driving a 2010 Dodge Charger northbound on Highway 395 south of Lambert Lane.
As Bell was approaching Dill Slough at an alleged high rate of speed, the statement continued, he was unable to negotiate a left-hand curve and the vehicle left the east side of the road, traveling along the embankment before becoming airborne across Dill Slough.
The Dodge collided with the opposing embankment, causing it to overturn and came to rest on the north side of Dill Slough.
According to the CHP, Bell was not wearing a seatbelt and succumbed to injuries sustained from the collision.
