Archaeology Day at Hobo Camp

Raymond and Jaycee Whitlock, 4, learn excavation techniques during the Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service and Susanville Indian Rancheria’s annual Archaeology Day Saturday, Oct. 5.

 

Along with atlatl mastering, excavating and gaining knowledge of local plants and animals, attendees at the annual Archaeology Day at the Hobo Camp Day Use Area mastered the art of creating duck decoys out of tule. Jen Rovanpera, an archeologist from the BLM Applegate Field Office, teaches Audrey, 3, left, Beatrice and Liam Parham, 6, how to construct the decoys.
