Are you ready for some Grizzlies’ football?

Believe it or not, negotiations are underway regarding the return of Lassen High School sports as soon as next month.

Morgan Nugent, LHS principal, said, “We’re trying to finalize the football schedule shortly. It looks like we’ll be going down to Foothill the 19th of March, and West Valley after that. And we’ve got a couple of home games. It looks like we’re going to have a seven-game season for football, and the baseball schedule is just about complete now.”

Other sports that may begin play soon include cross country and volleyball.

He said players from Amateur Athletic Union (youth basketball) played basketball in the gym last weekend.

“They’ve got the ability to play sports somehow, but high school teams haven’t been able to in the past,” Nugent said. “We’re providing them a chance by letting them use the gym.”

Nugent said campus administrators are working with the other schools to get our local kids playing sports again.

Nugent also said the school is hoping to get a waiver approved next week to allow for on-campus instruction.

For more information, Nugent suggested sports fans check the school’s Facebook page where information will be posted as available or call 251-2141.
