Arnold Francis Young (Butch)

Arnold Francis Young (Butch) passed peacefully 5/29/2026 at Renown Medical Center in Reno surrounded by loved ones.

Born 5/20/1947 in Herlong, California, son of Arnold Halliday Young and Mary Louise Young. He grew up in Herlong, attended Herlong High School and participated in football, wrestling, boxing and track. He was unchallenged at low hurdles.

Butch began his career at Sierra Army Depot in Ordinance as a forklift operator, before moving to Special Weapons. He attended encryption device technician training and retired as Chief of Communications with 37 years of civil service.

Butch had an undeniable charisma and people were drawn to him. He was as an amazingly skilled driver and his love for vehicles and motorcycles was never ending. He lived life to the fullest, especially in the outdoors. He loved animals, birds, horseback riding, boating, hunting, fishing, picking berries, living off the land and helping people. He was always accompanied by his faithful bird dog.

He is survived by son Arnold A. Young, daughter Holly M. Jones; granddaughters Mary  Jones and Ruth Jones; sisters Judy Zamboni, Mary Ann Winters,
Debbie Lafterty-Young. Partners Joan Dodd of 55 years and Peggy Wilburn of 45 years.
